Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Find out what your child will be learning this academic year.

The teaching staff in Year 5 are Mr Wheeler (5W), Miss Johnson (5J), Mrs Moore and Miss Walker-Smith (5MWS)
The teaching assistants are Miss McRoy, Ms Martin, Mrs Kotlowska and Mrs Deasey.

Children will now be expected to read at least 4 times a week. We want to allow the children more say on what and when they choose to enjoy a book. Children will still bring their school book home however we encourage them to also read ANY book of their choice that interests them. This can be picture books, graphic novels, newspapers etc. and these can be noted in their reading diaries. Class Teachers will be asking children to provide feedback on the books they have read at home and this will form part of your child’s home learning. Please support us with this by listening to your child read at least twice a week.

Home Learning
At the beginning of each half term, your child will be given project-related tasks for them to complete and hand in before the holidays. The tasks will include researching and art and design activities. We would really appreciate it if you could support them in completing their tasks as we would like to celebrate their hard work with other members of the school.

P.E kits are required for every P.E lesson. Children need to bring their P.E kits in at the start of half term and we will send them home at the end of term for them to be washed. Our P.E kit is white t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms and a pair of black pumps or trainers.

5J will begin swimming lessons every Friday afternoon from the 18th September. The other Y5 classes will start their lessons later in the school year.
