Welcome to Year 3!
Find out what your child will be learning this academic year.
In Year 3 the children are encouraged to listen to, and learn from, one another. We ask all children to respect each other’s ideas and opinions and always try their best.
The teachers in Year 3 are Mrs Greaves Class 3G and Mrs Clarke Class 3C. The teaching assistants are Mrs Whale (3C) and Mrs Harrison (3G).
The children have a reading book and a reading record. We would ask that you hear your child read at least 4 times per week and sign their reading record. The books the children are given to take home match their reading age at their last assessment. It is important for them to read a range of books at this level to help them develop as a reader, however we would also encourage the children to read anything else that interests them. This can be comics, magazines, picture books, graphic novels, chapter books or newspapers. Please make a note of these in their reading record so that we can see what other types of reading the children enjoy.
Each child has been provided with a bookmark with reading prompts. Having the opportunity to talk to you about a book they have read (or you have read to them) is incredibly important and will help to improve your child’s comprehension (their understanding and thinking about what they have read).
This will be set at the start of each half term. Your child will be given a selection of activities to complete and they can choose which ones they would like to try. Please help your child with their home learning, encouraging them to complete it independently but supporting them where needed. Home learning includes reading and practising recall of number facts regularly. The class newsletter gives you information about which number facts the children need to practise and lists some websites with games and activities linked to our learning in school.
We ask that PE kits are brought in at the start of each half term and left in school until the holiday. PE days will vary throughout the year so please check the class newsletter to find out when your child’s class has PE.
Children have access to fresh water all day. They are able to fill up their water bottles with fresh water when they come in first thing in the morning. Bottles are then kept in the boxes behind your child’s seat.
Your child is important to us and we are committed to making Year 3 the best possible experience for them so, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a member of the Year 3 team.
