Welcome to Year 5!
Find out what your child will be learning this academic year.
The teaching staff in Year 5 are Mrs Parry (5P) and Mr Wheeler (5W).
The teaching assistants are Mrs Clayton and Mrs Holloway.
P.E kits are required for every P.E lesson. Children need to bring their P.E kits in at the start of half term and we will send them home at the end of term for them to be washed. Our P.E kit is white t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms and a pair of black pumps or trainers.
Year 5 will be going swimming from September to February. Children will need to bring their full swimming kit each week (a costume or trunks, a towel and a swimming cap). They will also need a coat for walking to and from the leisure centre.
5W will be going swimming on Thursdays and 5T on Fridays.
In Year 5, we expect the children to read on at least four days each week. We also want to allow the children more say on what and when they choose to enjoy a book. Your child will still bring their school reading book home with them, however we also encourage them to read anything else that interests them and to record this in their green reading diary. This could be novels, picture books, graphic novels or magazines, for example, and will count towards their four days of reading. We will also send home reading challenges every half-term that can be completed on any type of paper. These challenges will need to be handed in on the last day of each half-term.
Spellings will be sent home on Fridays so that the children can practise for their spelling test the following week.
On Fridays, we will set the children a goal to spend 15 minutes on TTRS over the next week. It is best if this 15 minutes is spread out into smaller chunks.
